SMC Green Saving Switches

SMC Green Saving technologies are intelligent, innovative algorithms that detect link status and distance to best save power while maintain performance and stability.

Power saving by Auto-Detection of the number of active ports: SMC Green Saving switches will auto-detect the link status and automatically cut off power for a given port during periods of no link (when a port is unconnected or a PC is turned off). After it detects an incoming signal, it wakes up from power saving mode and operates in normal mode.

Power saving by Cable length Auto-Detection: SMC Green Saving switches can actively detect the presence of a shorter cable and determines the appropriate power level based on cable length so there’ll be less power consumption when the link distance is shorter (than the 100 meters of cable length specified by IEEE standards).

Save up to 59% of power usage with SMC Green Saving Switches

  1. If PCs connected to the switch are turned off, a SMC Green Saving Switch can save up to 59% for the power used. And even under full traffic load, SMC Green Saving Switches can still save up to 24% power consumption.
  2. If cable length is less than 20 meters, each SMC Green Saving Switch can save up to 13% for the power used.

In a standard office scenario, PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and when connected to the switch using 20 meter or shorter cable, each SMC Green Saving Switch can save up to 37%* of power consumption and electricity costs. In terms of CO2 emission it will reduce up to 17kg of CO2 emission which equals to planting one more tree for mother earth.
